Safety Glass with Tradition
On 28 June, Mr Joachim Schuler and Mr Wolfgang Weiß establish Sicherheitsglastechnik Oelsnitz (Vogtl.) GmbH.
Prior to this, both managing partners processed flat glass for the safety glass production in different companies for more than 15 years.
On 31 May 1999, the construction of the production hall begins. It will cover an area of 7,300 square metres.
In September 1999, production starts with 26 employees.
Another plant is commissioned, marking the end of the start-up investment phase.
The number of employees increases to 47.

Further investments are made at the Oelsnitz‘ production site. We acquire a fifth tempering furnace in order to manufacture glass the size of up to 3,300mm x 7,200mm.
Additionally, another CNC horizontal machining centre, a fourth heat soak furnace and a third screen printing machine are commissioned.
In the meantime the number of employees amounts to 190.
Our company employs 220 members of staff.
The increasing demand for larger glass sheet sizes and the growing interest in products “made by SGT” lead to further investments.
At the end of July, excavation works for the third phase of construction start. A 14,000 square metres production hall and an office building with 1,450 square metres of useful floor space are built. In total, the production area of the company amounts to 34,000 square metres.
The newly erected production hall is equipped with sophisticated machinery designed to manufacture glass sheets the maximum size of 9,000mm x 3,300mm, namely six cutting machines, seven tempering machines, three glass laminating machines and eight heat soak furnaces. These machines are unique on a global level.
At the end of the year, the number of employees increases to 251.
In the first and second quarter the machinery of the third production hall is installed and commissioned. Over the course of the year, we move into our new offices.
At the end of 2009, SGT employs 284 members of staff.

To save drinking water and avoid wastewater investments are made in 3 decentralized water treatment plants.
There was the replacement of another one-sided grinding machine.
Investment in a new tempering furnace as well as in 7 anisotropy scanners.
