Safety Glass with Tradition

  • 1998

    On 28 June, Mr Joachim Schuler and Mr Wolfgang Weiß establish Sicherheitsglastechnik Oelsnitz (Vogtl.) GmbH.

    Prior to this, both managing partners processed flat glass for the safety glass production in different companies for more than 15 years.

  • 1999

    On 31 May 1999, the construction of the production hall begins. It will cover an area of 7,300 square metres.

    In September 1999, production starts with 26 employees.

  • 2000

    Another plant is commissioned, marking the end of the start-up investment phase.

    The number of employees increases to 47.

  • 2001

    Certification in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001. We now employ 65 members of staff.

  • 2002

    At the end of August the construction of another production hall begins. It will cover 12,000 square metres. The first machines are installed and commissioned.

    At the end of 2002, SGT Oelsnitz has 86 employees.

  • 2003

    Commissioning of the last machines in the second production hall.

    The number of employees increases to 142 at the end of the year.

  • 2004

    SGT Oelsnitz employs 161 members of staff.

  • 2005

    SGT acquires 22,000 square metres of adjacent land.

    The company has now 174 employees.

  • 2006

    Further investments are made at the Oelsnitz‘ production site. We acquire a fifth tempering furnace in order to manufacture glass the size of up to 3,300mm x 7,200mm.

    Additionally, another CNC horizontal machining centre, a fourth heat soak furnace and a third screen printing machine are commissioned.

    In the meantime the number of employees amounts to 190.

  • 2007

    Our company employs 220 members of staff.

    The increasing demand for larger glass sheet sizes and the growing interest in products “made by SGT” lead to further investments.

  • 2008

    At the end of July, excavation works for the third phase of construction start. A 14,000 square metres production hall and an office building with 1,450 square metres of useful floor space are built. In total, the production area of the company amounts to 34,000 square metres.

    The newly erected production hall is equipped with sophisticated machinery designed to manufacture glass sheets the maximum size of 9,000mm x 3,300mm, namely six cutting machines, seven tempering machines, three glass laminating machines and eight heat soak furnaces. These machines are unique on a global level.

    At the end of the year, the number of employees increases to 251.

  • 2009

    In the first and second quarter the machinery of the third production hall is installed and commissioned. Over the course of the year, we move into our new offices.

    At the end of 2009, SGT employs 284 members of staff.

  • 2010

    We now have 291 employees.

  • 2011

    In the spring of 2011, the former office building is replaced by an annex that contains a fourth screen printing machine (7,200mm x 3,300mm).

    Two new edging machines are commissioned.

    We now employ 303 members of staff.

  • 2012

    In spring, commissioning of the fourth screen printing machine takes place.

    In May 2012, we establish an energy team that introduces an energy management system. On 28 June 2012, the system is certified in accordance with ISO 50001.

    On 1 November 2012, Mr Jörg Beckert is appointed manager.

  • 2013

    The first replacement investments will be carried out. Accomplished are the replacement of a tempering furnace against a plant of the latest technology and the replacement of a one-sided grinding machine with associated washing machine.

  • 2015

    To save drinking water and avoid wastewater investments are made in 3 decentralized water treatment plants.

  • 2016

    There was the replacement of another one-sided grinding machine.

  • 2018

    Investment in a new tempering furnace as well as in 7 anisotropy scanners.
